What does your Skincare Regime look like?
People often ask me….what’s the best product I can use to achieve this or that. My reply to their desire and want for the ever clear complexion is by asking a variety of questions. I ask about their current lifestyle habits and their current skincare regime. Sometimes I get daggers cast back at me as there are those that want me to simply solve their skin care problem by selling them the miracle product…sorry I don’t sell that product, no one sells that product. Most of the time though, people appreciate the questions I am asking and why I am asking them. The healthiest skin is best achieved from a holistic level. Not simply selling the “miracle in a jar” solution.
I absolutely love natural skincare, green skincare products play a wonderful and very effective role in achieving healthy, glowing skin but they do only play a part of the solution to healthy skin.
There is no short-cut to natural beauty. Natural beauty is a lifestyle. I honestly believe that the best skin you can have, the healthiest skin you can live in is achieved when everything is in balance. If you feel good, more often than not this mood resonates through you and you look good too. It just makes sense. You’ll achieve your best skin when you honestly address all areas of your life which ultimately impact on the health of our skin.
Diet, lifestyle, stress, medications, alcohol, smoking, skincare regime, exercise, sleep, water intake, genetics to name but a few factors – these all place a large roll in how we look, how our skin looks. Being in tune with this, appreciating this and working holistically is the best approach to achieving healthy, happy skin.
Today we are talking Skincare Regimes.
What does your current skincare regime consist of? Do you cleanse your face? Do you cleanse your face daily, or maybe every couple of days, of maybe not at all? do you moisturise? sometimes? let’s talk shall we…
Having a regular skincare regime doesn’t have to be time consuming. It doesn’t have to be expensive and it certainly doesn’t have to come at the expense of cruelty to animals and our environment.
A healthy, happy, glowing you is possible. Practice a daily natural skincare regime using healthy, clean, green products is a brilliant step toward maintaining healthy looking and feeling skin.
Many people take our skin for granted. It’s so easy to not think about how many functions this amazing organ does for us. Let’s see why a skincare regime is so important to having healthy skin.
Step 1) Clear the buildup – CLEANSE
Should you cleanse? Well, my answer to that is YES, of course you should!
The purpose of facial cleansing is to remove dirt, oil, and other unwanted debris and impurities. Everyday your skin is exposed to bacteria, pollutants, viruses, dirt, and old (dead) skin cells. Daily facial washing removes these impurities and helps to give the skin a fresh look. Without cleansing your face, your skin would be covered with a layer of dirt and grime which make it difficult for other products to penetrate the skin properly.
If you wear makeup I strongly recommend removing it every night before bed. If you don’t cleanse thoroughly, you skin can look dull and various skin conditions may arise or worsen.
When you cleanse you want your skin to feel clean and fresh afterwards, not stripped of oils and tight and dry. Ensure you use the correct cleansing product for your skin type. We have several cleansing options to choose from. Cream cleansers are great for those with normal to dry, sensitive, ageing skin, we recommend the Calendula Cream Ceanser or Quandong Cream Cleanser. Our Lilly Pilly Gel cleanser is great for all skin types especially those with normal, combination, oily, blemished, acne prone skin. Another cleansing method we love is the Oil Cleansing Method. We have different Facial Cleansing Oils to suit each skin type. You can find detailed information about the Oil Cleansing Method here. We also have lovely, gentle facial cleansing soaps, these are convenient to use in the shower and ideal as the cleansing step of your skincare regime.
If you don’t currently cleanse, my advice is…start cleansing today 🙂
Cleansing is the first step of any skincare regime.
A lot of people don’t tone, thinking it doesn’t actually do anything for the skin. Toners are an important step in a skincare regime.
A toner is applied after you cleanse and just before you moisturise. The purpose of toning is to restore balance to the skins surface. You can spray or dab a toner over your face. I like to moisten a cotton ball and then spray it with floral water and then wipe the cotton ball over my face. It’s very refreshing and hydrating for the skin.
Cleansing and then applying a toner helps to manage PH levels of the skin; enabling sufficient water and product retention. We have two toner options, they are both floral waters, Rosewater or Lavender.
Step 3) Moisturise for balanced skin
Moisturising provides moisture to the surface layers of the skin and helps create a barrier between your skin and the air. Using a moisturiser will help to prevent dryness, it also helps to keep your skin smooth, soft and supply by maintaining hydration and reducing the possibility of dehydrated skin.
Tiny glands under the skin produce oil called sebum to protect the skin from the dangers of the outside world. These glands use hair follicles within the skin as a pathway, allowing the oil to reach the skins surface (outer layer) to form a barrier that prevents the penetration of bacteria or other harmful agents.
Some people have oily skin than others so using the correct moisturiser for your skin type is important to allow the sebum oil to reach the skin surface unimpeded, decreasing the chance of breakouts.
Our range of facial moisturisers can be found here.
Step 4) Exfoliate regularly for smooth skin
Exfoliating the skin helps slough off dead skin cells that can clog pores and cause flaky, dry skin. You do not need to exfoliate daily. Too much exfoliation can be rough on delicate skin tissue, so we recommend you keep it to 1-3 times a week.
Exfoliating step is done after cleansing, the purpose is to give the skin an extra deeper cleanse than what just the cleanser can offer.
What happens if I don’t have a regular skincare regime?
If you don’t regularly cleanse your face your pores become clogged and can result in the development of blackheads, acne. The skin could also experience a combination of build up of dead skin cells, dryness and irritation from insufficient hydration. Your skin would generally appear dirty, oily, greasy and most likely age prematurely.
Our advice is practice and enjoy a daily skincare regime. Before too long you will be looking forward to your daily ritual of self care of cleansing, toning and moisturising and soon feel and see restored health back to your skin.
Having a regular skincare regime has so many benefits.
- Helps to keep your skin looking radiant and healthy.
- Helps the skin absorb exfoliation treatments, serums, masks and skincare treatments much better, resulting in clearer, healthier skin.
- Helps maintain proper pore size and sebum balance.
- Encourages proper skin hydration and prevents the production of excess oils.
Sticking to the ideal skincare regime is not always as easy as it sounds with today’s busy schedules. However, you will certainly reap the benefits in the long term if you do manage to maintain at least the basic regime of cleansing, toning and moisturising with good quality natural products, morning and night.
I hope you found this information useful. Do you have a skincare regime? How long have you had your skincare regime for? I’d love to hear from you.
Until next time,
